How to Shorten a Zipper Step 5

Description

This step we add the stoppers again. This is arguably the hardest part because it's hard to get the stoppers to go back onto the strip. The stoppers are shaped like a 'U' so if you try to slide them on and it slides on-great! Use the vice grip pliers and squeeze them around the stoppers in order to clamp them down to the fabric.

If it does not slide on you're going to have to increase the gap of the U. So you need 2 pairs of needle nose pliers or something similar. Grab one side of the U firmly with one pair before grabbing the other side with another pair of pliers. Grab on tightly and pull. I had to pull as hard as I could, these little bits of metal were incredibly resilient. Once you get a large enough gap slide it back onto the ribbon just above the teeth (like shown above) and clamp it on with the vice grip pliers. When your done it should look as shown in the picture.

And we're just about done with the tutorial! If you don't need the remaining ribbon over the stoppers cut it off with a pair of scissors and seal it with some clear nail polish to keep it from unraveling. If you want to keep the extra ribbon it's fine too, but you should seal it there with nail polish as well so it doesn't unravel.
